Dr. Sanchez investigates the life of this “Compassionate Sephardic Conquistador,” Don Luis de Carvajal. He tracks him across Spain and Portugal holding secret meetings with members of his extended family in order to rescue them from the tormenting tentacles of the Inquisition, transporting them across the Atlantic into Mexico. Passengers on Don Luis’ ship, La Santa Catalina, suffered the loss of their belongings due to a hurricane. Greater than all the adversities on the high seas and perilous adventure in Mexico, the worst thing that could’ve happened, happened—the Spanish Crown exported the Inquisition into Mexico. Dr. Sanchez shows how they prevailed and continue to prevail to this very day. He demonstrates how many of the customs, practices and oral sayings which they have preserved to this very day are Sephardic in origin.
